ELITES ARE OFF TO TRESHAM!

For the second year in succession, the Men's Elites will be part of the last 16 draw for the National Play Offs.

Last season saw the Elites finish in third place in their league and just qualify for the National Play Offs. They went onto get knocked out in the ¼ finals after losing in extra-time to Dereham College.

This season’s ever-improving Elites are on track for the league title and are set to embark on an even better journey in this seasons National Play offs.

The draw for the last 16 of the National Play Offs will see the Elites travel to Tresham College for what looks to be a testing fixture. The fixture is set to be played on the 21st of March in Kettering, the home of Tresham College.

Tresham College compete in the ECFA Category 1 within the Group 5 Division. This division hosts a number of familiar faces in; Dereham College, who knocked the Elites out in the previous season’s ¼ final of the National Play Offs. The division also hosts Milton Keynes College, who were victorious in a 3-0 win over the Elites in the National Cup earlier this year. Tresham are 2nd in the league with Milton Keynes sitting top and Dereham in 3rd place.

Both the Elites and Tresham are undergoing similar runs of fortune, with the Elites unbeaten in their last nine league games and Tresham unbeaten in their last four. Both teams suffered their last defeat against a strong Milton Keynes side. The Elites lost 3-0 and in their fixture away from home and Tresham suffered a 5-0 defeat when they played them in their home fixture.

Along with similar runs in form, both teams sit in a respective second position in their league tables. Both sides have one fixture left to play and can be crowned champions of their leagues. The Elites have to overcome FAB Academy in their final fixture to be crowned champions and Tresham will need to win, and score a considerable amount of goals in their final fixture for them to be crowned champions.

Academy Director Chris Watters has said ‘we have a lot to prove in this competition. We believe we can improve on last season’s ¼ final cup exit. We have a talented group of boys who have bonded well together and are hungry to carry on winning games’.

The Elites are hoping to trigger a thrilling journey in the cup with a win over opponents Tresham. Manager Jimmy Martin is in great confidence for the fixture and believes the Elites can use their astonishing league form as momentum to kick-start a devastating cup run.

The fixture is scheduled to be played on Wednesday 21st April.
